2009 CONSTRUCTION EXCELLENCE AWARDS PUBLIC VOTE

Ballyharry logo

Belfast Telegraph Logo

CEF Logo

Ferguson Homes has been recognised by the industry body Construction Employers Federation (CEF) for its work at Ballyharry, Newtownards.

Ballyharry house type

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Construction Excellence Awards the CEF is holding a public vote with the Belfast Telegraph.

The public are being asked to cast their vote on the best construction project in Northern Ireland in the last 10 years with a choice of 10 projects including a private housing category, which is to be represented by Ballyharry.

With over 60 years experience in the local housing industry the Ballyharry development was Ferguson Homes first scheme in the Newtownards area.
The development was designed in collaboration with Alan Patterson Design with a distinct Rennie Mackintosh theme.
Mackintosh is internationally celebrated as one of the foremost architects and designers of the early 20th century who used his own interpretation of the Arts & Crafts style in the design of his buildings and furniture.
Extensive landscaping, cluster housing, the use of hand cut clay facing bricks and the fine detail put into the specification of the site led to the Ballyharry Development winning a number of awards including a CEF / Specify Construction Excellence Award for Private Housing in 2002.
Ballyharry is certainly one of the most unique schemes we have undertaken over the past 10 years and represented good value for money at the time for the discerning homeowner.
It is always difficult for a new development to blend in with surrounding existing housing however we believe at Ballyharry the sense of place, quality and individuality of our range of housing augmented and benefited the local area meeting with the aspirations of the ‘Quality Initiative’ introduced by the Department of Environment at that time.
Housing schemes at Victoria Road, Ballybarnes Meadow and more recently Lakeview Manor have now firmly established Ferguson Homes reputation in Newtownards for providing quality family homes and we look forward to many more years of involvement in the Ards area to shape the future of this up and coming location.

Ballyharry interior photo

The site was ably managed by Robert Craig, a past Gold Award Winner at the Chartered Institute of Building Construction Manager of the Year awards, a terrific achievement for a local Site Manager on the national stage.

Robert Craig MCIOB – Ferguson Homes Site Manager at Ballyharry

‘The sense of place, quality and uniqueness of the Ballyharry development was achieved with a highly experienced team who had worked with me on many previous projects.
The Ballyharry Roadhouse made way for a mixed use development of detached, semi-detached and townhouses.
Most of the houses were designed to offer split level accommodation adding to the interest and variety of house designs that were specified to a high level.
This attention to detail presented myself and my team with a significant challenge not found on many housing projects.’

The purpose of the vote is to demonstrate the positive impact the construction industry has on all our communities, both during construction (employment and community outreach) and following completion of the project.

The project will appear in the daily newspaper and readers will be signposted to the website www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk to vote.  The winner will be announced at the Construction Excellence Awards 2009 Gala Evening on the 8th October in the Culloden Hotel.

The winning project will also be featured in the Belfast Telegraph and their website on the 9th October.
